Terms of use
Draft, last updated 12 October 2026.
1. About these terms
These terms apply to the website 2secret.app. The website is offered by Joost (“we”). By using the website, you accept these terms.
2. The software
2Secret is open-source software, published under the MIT licence or the Apache License 2.0, at your option. That licence, not these terms, governs your use of the software. As both licences state, the software is provided “as is”, without warranties or conditions of any kind.
We don’t provide a hosted service: we don’t store vaults for users. Where you keep your vault, and any server you run, is your own choice and responsibility.
3. Your responsibility
- Keep your master password and your Secret Key (Emergency Kit) safe. If you lose either, nobody, including us, can recover your data.
- Make backups. A vault that exists in one place only can be lost.
- Keep your apps and any server you run up to date.
4. The iOS app
The iOS app is sold through Apple’s App Store for a one-time price. Apple’s terms apply to the purchase and to refunds.
5. The website
We put care into the information on this website, but it may contain errors and may change. You may not misuse the website, for example by attacking it, overloading it or trying to gain unauthorised access. Security research within our disclosure policy is welcome.
6. Name and logo
The source code is open, but the name 2Secret and its logo identify the official project. Please don’t use them in a way that suggests your version or service is the official one.
7. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damage resulting from the use of this website or the software, including loss of data. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Dutch law.
8. Applicable law
Dutch law applies to these terms. Disputes are submitted to the competent court in the Netherlands.
