2Secret 1.11.1: AutoFill on the Mac and iPhone in 2Secret's own look

The panel that fills passwords, passkeys and verification codes now has the 2Secret logo, colours and theme, names the website, shows the icons of your logins, and the Touch ID and Face ID dialog says what happens.

Version 1.11.1 of 2Secret is out for Mac, Windows and Linux, the command line, the browser extension, the web vault and the sync server, with a TestFlight build for iPhone and iPad. It is a small release with one visible change: the AutoFill panel on the Mac and iPhone now looks like 2Secret.

The panel

When you fill a password, passkey or verification code in Safari or another app, the panel that opens has the 2Secret logo and colours, follows the theme you chose in the app (light, dark or system), names the website it is for, and lists your logins with the icons of their websites. The Touch ID and Face ID dialog now says what happens ("2Secret is trying to unlock your vault for github.com") instead of "fill with 2Secret". On the Mac a Touch ID given a moment ago is reused for a few minutes when the system keeps the panel running, so two fills in a row ask once.

Nothing changed in what AutoFill fills or how it is protected: the logins still come from the encrypted cache the app keeps while unlocking with Touch ID or Face ID is on, and the panel still cannot change the vault. The website icons travel with that cache, encrypted like the rest.

Updating

  • Mac, Windows and Linux: apps with automatic updates turned on offer 1.11.1 by themselves. Otherwise get it from the download page. On the Mac, open the app once after updating so AutoFill gets the icons.
  • iPhone and iPad: the new panel is in the TestFlight build; it reaches the App Store with the next review.
  • Your own server: 1.11.1 changes nothing on the server, so there is nothing to do.

Everything that changed is in the changelog.
