2Secret 1.12.1: Quick Access in 2Secret's own look

The search panel behind the shortcut and the menu bar icon is a floating panel with the 2Secret logo, rounded corners and clearer keyboard hints, and on the Mac it opens reliably from the menu bar icon.

Version 1.12.1 of 2Secret is out for Mac, Windows and Linux, the command line, the browser extension, the web vault and the sync server, with a TestFlight build for iPhone and iPad. It is a small release for the desktop apps: Quick Access now looks like 2Secret, and on the Mac it opens reliably from the menu bar icon.

Quick Access

Quick Access is the small search window behind Ctrl+Shift+Space (⇧⌘Space on the Mac) and the Quick Access entry of the menu bar or tray icon: find an item anywhere and copy its password, user name or one-time code without opening the 2Secret window. It is now a floating panel with rounded corners and a shadow, the 2Secret logo next to a larger search field, the number of matches while you type, buttons for the user name, password and code on the selected item, a clearer "copied" state and the keyboard hints as keys. A click beside the panel closes it. On Linux the window stays plain and square, because a desktop without a compositor would show black corners.

On the Mac, Quick Access from the menu bar icon (and the shortcut) could do nothing after Quick Access had been used once while the 2Secret window was closed: 2Secret hid itself to give the keyboard back to the app you were using, and a hidden app's windows stay off the screen until something else brings it to the front. 2Secret now comes to the front first; Open 2Secret from the icon had the same problem and is fixed as well.

Updating

  • Mac, Windows and Linux: apps with automatic updates turned on offer 1.12.1 by themselves. Otherwise get it from the download page.
  • iPhone and iPad, the extension and your own server: nothing changed since 1.12.0; the version number moves along so every platform has the same one.

Everything that changed is in the changelog.
